What Makes up a typical Auto Insurance Policy (Pennsylvania)

Tort Option- In Pennsylvania you must choose between Full or Limited Tort. Consult with your agent about the differences in premium and what defines your ability to sue another party.

Bodily Injury Liability- Protects you when you are sued for bodily injury you cause to others. Minimum limits in Pennsylvania start at $15,000/Person - $30,000/accident. Coverage can be purchased with single or splits limits and generally is available up to $1,000,000 depending upon the company.

Property Damage Liability- Protects you for claim brought against you for damage to someone else's property (auto, autos, fence, mailbox, house, guardrail etc) Minimum limits in Pennsylvania begin at $5,000 available as a single limits and go to around $1,000,000 depending upon the company.

First Party Medical- Medical coverage on you for injuries that arise when you are in contact with an automobile. In PA this means your car or someone else's. It also means when injured as a pedestrian. Minimum limits in Pennsylvania begin at $5,000.

First Party Income- (Optional coverage). Lost wages due to an auto accident. Limits start at $1,000/mo up to $5,000/mo with maximum limits.

First Party Funeral- (Optional Coverage). Funeral expenses with limits you can choose from $1,500 or $2,500.

First Party Accidental Death- (Optional Coverage) $5,000 - $25,000

Extraordinary Medical Benefits-  (Optional Coverage)- Optional Coverage. $1,000,000 of additional medical coverage.

Combination Package- (Optional Coverage) $177,500 with sub-limits, in lieu of the above First Party Coverages.

Uninsured Motorist & Underinsured Motorist Optional Coverage- (Optional Coverage)- Coverage on you for bodily injury when the other party does not have coverage or limits below what has been awarded. This coverage is fairly complicated and its advisable to consult your agent for specifics as coverage can be carried at various levels and stacked if you insure multiple vehicles. Coverage limits mirror those of Bodily Injury. 

Comprehensive or Other than Collision- Damage to YOUR vehicle for perils (causes of loss) other than collision or upset. Wear & Tear is excluded, but common perils are: Fire, Theft, vandalism, falling objects, collision with an animal such as a deer, flood etc.

Collision- Collision or upset

Transportation Expenses- (Optional Coverage) Pays for a rental vehicle or other reimbursement for travel expenses depending up on the carrier, while your car is being repaired or while obtaining a replacement. You choose the daily limit.

Towing & Labor- (Optional) Coverage for Road Service and Towing. Generally there is a per/loss limit that you can purchase.

Various company specific endorsements are available for optional coverages that may be applicable to your situation.
